On the Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was one of the most debated wars the United States has ever entered. It divided Americans into two different groups, those opposed to and those who supported the Vietnam War, causing protests and even riots in the States. The USA primarily entered this fight to end the spread of Communism and support its ally, South Korea, against the communist government of North Korea. Over three million people died in this war. More than half of them being Vietnamese citizens and 58,000 of them being Americans. Former President Nixon attempted to decrease the amount of soldiers being sent to Vietnam by teaching South Vietnamese soldiers better war tactics and increasing in-air fighting. Even after this effort, the war was still widely protested, one incident even causing the deaths' of four college students. To this day, people still argue the the Vietnam War was an unnecessary battle to enter, as the United States signed a peace treaty to end the war in 1973, but fighting between North and South Korea continued until 1975.
